About DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)
DSL is a technology that brings high-bandwidth information to home and businesses over copper telephone lines.
xDSL refers to the various types of DSL such as ADSL, SDSL, IDSL, CDSL, HDSL and RADSL.
Assuming your home or office is close enough (less than 15000 feet) to a telephone company Central Office that offers DSL service, you may qualify for data rates of up to 15MB/s enabling continuous transmission of motion video, audio and 3-D effects. A DSL line can carry both data and voice signals and the data portion of the line is continuously connected.
Advantages: High speed; Amazing value for that speed; “Always ON” connection; Flexible options
Disadvantages: Rarely available in rural area; Symmetric DSL is very expensive (sometimes close to the price of a T1)
Choose ISP recommends DSL to everyone spending over 10 hours per week in front of a computer, mostly being online, sending emails, browsing the web, listening to an online radio...
It is a plus if you already have a land line in your home or office but even if not, the cost for 1 phone line with only basic features cost only approximate $6 per month. So keep that in mind when you are considering between DSL and Cable.
